A dispute over unpaid rent turned deadly in the Bronx Wednesday as a landlord is accused of fatally stabbing a tenant.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. outside the home located at 1001 Logan Avenue in Throgs Neck.

Police said Zakir Khan, 44, was found with multiple stab wounds to his chest, and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The landlord, 51-year-old Taha Mahran, turned himself into police shortly after.

"He was a nice man, you can ask everybody," Sabur Khan said about his brother Zakir. "I don't have any words for that, I cannot even believe it. That type of man, how friendly he was."

A longtime neighbor says she was shocked to hear the landlord could have behaved violently.

"I would see him coming in and out doing the renovations. He painted the whole house by himself. He seemed to be a very good family man. I can't think of anything negative to say at all," said the tenant.

Investigators say the dispute broke out after Khan had not paid his rent in several months.

Mahran is facing murder, manslaughter, and weapons possession charges.
