The NYPD is investigating after police shoot and kill a man suspected of holding up a bodega in Brooklyn with what appeared to be a gun.

It happened around 12:45 Sunday morning at the Garden Deli and Grill on Starr Street near Irving Avenue in Bushwick.

Investigators responding to a 911 call about a robbery found the man walking down the street and approached him.

They say that's when he pointed what they thought was a gun at police...compelling them to open fire and shoot him multiple times.

A deli worker tells us the man threatened to kill him during the robbery.

"He tells me bag it up again or I'm going to kill you," the clerk said. "After I bag it up I tell him take whatever you like. Money, whatever you like. Please don't kill me."

"It's not even worth it like pull a gun on someone try to kill them for a couple of beers. It's not even worth it."

The suspect was taken to Woodhull Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say his weapon appears to be a fake gun, but they're still investigating.
