Authorities say a 5-year-old child has been seriously injured following a dog attack in Brooklyn on Friday night.

The boy's uncle identified him as 5-year-old Jeremiah Rivera.

The NYPD said Jeremiah was bit in the head and neck by one of two pit bulls on Riverdale Avenue near Georgia Avenue around 6:45 p.m.

The child was taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Jeremiah's uncle says the boy will survive, but his face will never be the same again.

"They don't seem that mean at all. All of a sudden, they just snapped. They took his face off. And it's horrible," the boy's uncle said.

"These homeowners or apartments should not have these dangerous dogs in their apartments, especially around children, because they can maul you and kill you. So I just hope the little child pulls through," said one neighbor.

The boy's uncle said the pit bulls were always in a cage and only taken out to be walked.

The dogs were taken to Animal Care and Control.

The child's father was home at the time with two other siblings, according to police.
