Attorney General Eric Schneiderman issues a fraud alert after reports surface of fake agents scamming those in immigrant communities for cash.

This after an undocumented man was stopped in Woodside by four people posing as immigration agents.

Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer says the man was forced to pay them to avoid being taken into custody.

Schneiderman says his office has received an uptick in reported scams and wants to make sure others don't suffer the same fate.

"Remember immigration officials will never demand money from you or threaten deportation if you don't pay that's clearly a scam," the Attorney General said. Any scam that targets the vulnerable is unconscionable, but my office is here to help."

Schneiderman's office has set up a hotline to report potential fraud or other issues regarding immigration services.
