High winds caused trouble all over the city, and they almost proved deadly for a man Queens. NY1's Lori Chung has the details.

"It was very frightening because you know like I said one day we're here and one minute we're not."

Greta Godoy says that's why she's so thankful that her brother survived a falling tree crashing down right on top of him.

"As you can see he was just getting out of the car and something, there was no noise, no nothing except the regular wind, suddenly he just felt that he needed to look back and when he did he saw the tree coming," Godoy said.

The 32-year-old threw himself on the ground, suffering minor injuries. The tree was no match for Monday's severe winds.

"The winds were so gusting so badly," Godoy said.

Their East Elmhurst block was one of several places where the wind wreaked havoc.

In Fresh Meadows, crews were called out after a canopy collapsed at a gulf station.

"We get out and see the roof was just hanging."

And in lower Manhattan where glass rained down from 23 stories above.

"It's unbelievable that nature can be that hard."

After the close-call back here on 93rd Street, Godoy's now worried about the remaining trees near the family home and the possibility of this happening in the future.

"We know that they're dead and in this wind we were afraid that it could happen again."

Godoy says she's reached out to the city parks department to have the trees here serviced or removed but says was told it could take up to 30 days. She says she's hoping that given what happened here workers will make it out much sooner.
