NEW YORK - Several people were hurt Monday when a school bus jumped a curb in Manhattan during the morning rush.

The city fire department says it happened around 8:15 a.m. on 85th Street and Third Avenue on the Upper East Side.

Four people were seriously injured.

They were taken to area hospitals in stable condition.

Police say the driver told them the brakes were not working.

The bus was empty at the time of the incident.

Police say the driver was issued a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
