A pair of Staten Island lawmakers are continuing their fight to block the city from destroying old IDNYC program applications.

Assemblymembers Ron Castorina and Nicole Malliotakis announced a new co-counsel in their lawsuit launched against the city last month.

The city is considering purging records collected by the program, in order to protect undocumented immigrants from possible deportation during Donald Trump's presidency.

The legislators say the move violates the Freedom of Information Law and puts Americans in danger.

"It's just ludicrous, it's political hyperbole and it's being done for — to serve a political agenda and a political agenda is not something that should supersede the safety and security of the American public," Castorina said.

"You are literally dismembering the Constitution, because you're saying the third branch of government can't see, can't look and can't decide," said co-counsel Ravi Batra.

The lawmakers say they're looking to get a court order to permanently prevent the city from getting rid of the documents.
