The sister of a man shot dead by police in Brooklyn says authorities are not telling the truth about what happened.

Police say 63-year-old James Owens was wielding a 13-inch knife (seen at left) and refused to drop it.

It happened on East 99th Street near Avenue J in Canarsie shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

Police say they shot Owens three times after a taser was ineffective.

But his sister, the Rev. Daisy Wright, says police shot him three times in the chest before they tased him and did not do enough to calm him down.

"He got upset with the cops, and he picked up a knife. And the cop didn't say, 'Drop it.' They didn't try to talk him down. They didn't say nothing," Wright said. "From the time the cops came and to we entered the kitchen, in six minutes, my brother was dead. Within six minutes."

Owens was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he died.

No officers were injured.
