More people are going to be allowed to visit graves on Hart Island.

A modification to a 2015 city settlement will increase the number of visitors from 50 people per month to 70.

The city and the New York Civil Liberties Union had been at odds on allowing families to visit loved ones buried on site.

The city was accused of violating constitutional rights by barring grave site visits.

The potter's field on Hart Island is the nation's largest mass grave.

As many as one million people are believed to be buried there.

Hart Island is currently operated by the Department of Correction, and prisoners are used to conduct burials and maintain the island.
