Lions danced their way through a Bayside school auditorium Tuesday to teach kids about Asian culture.

Students at PS 159 got to learn different Chinese Lunar New Year traditions during an assembly at the school. Performers from a Chinatown dance collective taught the kids about the traditional lion dance.

The students also got to feed the lion lettuce, along with lucky red and green envelopes. The school's principal, Paul DiDio, says nearly 60% of the school's population is Asian.

“Hopefully the students will learn something about their classmates' culture so they will be able to learn about the Lunar New Year activities that take place all across China and other Asian communities,” DiDio said.

“You get to see what's going on in China and how people celebrate it, like all the concerts,” added student Wesley Chan.

The Chinese Lunar New Year starts on Saturday.
