WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is wasting little time making good on many conservative goals he campaigned on.

Today, the president signed a memorandum to leave the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership.

The framework for that controversial trade deal was one of former President Barack Obama's last accomplishments.

But Mr. Trump had long criticized it -- likening it to NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement, that he also wants to roll back.

Trade experts say approval had already been unlikely given voters' worries about its impact on jobs.

Two others big moves by the president today:

He issued an executive order to freeze federal hiring. Trump has said the government is too big and should be shrunken, but he never released detailed outlines on how he planned to shrink the government.

The president also resurrected a ban that cuts off funding to international groups that promote abortion overseas. This ban has been instituted by every Republican president since Ronald Reagan and rescinded by both Democratic presidents.
