Before heading on vacation with his family, now-former President Barack Obama thanked supporters one last time.

In tradition following an inauguration, the outgoing president and first lady boarded a helicopter to Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

There, Obama addressed supporters and longtime members of his staff alongside wife Michelle.

He says he dedicated the past eight years to the everyday American, and says they proved hope triumphed over fear.

"This has been the privilege of my life, and I know I speak for Michelle as well. And we look forward to continuing this journey with all of you, and I can't wait to see what you do next. And I promise you I'll be right there with you. Alright? God Bless you. Thank you everybody," Obama said. "Yes we did. Yes we can."

Later in the day, Obama tweeted from his @BarackObama Twitter handle.

He also invited Americans to share their thoughts about the country's future on his new website, obama.org.

Meanwhile, former Vice President Joe Biden got emotional after returning home to Delaware.

In a nod to civilian life, Biden and his wife Jill traveled by Amtrak from Washington to Wilmington. When Biden was a senator from Delaware, he would ride the train frequently.

At a welcome rally in Wilmington, Biden encouraged supporters to give Trump a chance because it's in the country's best interest. He also got choked up.

"I mean this sincerely. We never thought we left home," Biden said, getting choked up. "No part of the world is remotely, remotely as positioned to lead the world in the 21st century. We own the finish line."

Biden says although he and Obama are no longer in the White House, they are close friends and plan to do a lot of work together.
