NEW YORK - There is a heated back-and-forth going on between Mariah Carey's camp and the production company behind the New Year's Rockin' Eve over Carey's disastrous performance in Times Square on Saturday night.

After the Grammy award-winner stumbled through her short set, her manager blamed technical problems including a malfunctioning earpiece.

The manager also claimed Dick Clark Productions set Carey up for failure.

But the production company calls that idea "absurd."

Carey's trouble with the performance drew worldwide attention.
