Hundreds of Queens residents were without water Thursday after a water main break flooded an entire city block.

Crews have been working to repair the 12-inch water main on 60th Avenue in Corona since early this morning.

It broke shortly before 1 a.m.

Water flooded local streets and quickly rose above the tires of some cars.

The basement of one residential building in the area was also flooded.

Residents of at least six buildings lost access to water.

A superintendent of one of the affected buildings tells NY1 at least one boiler was damaged due to flooding in the basement.

The Department of Environmental Protection says they are still determining the cause, but say fluctuating temperatures could have had an impact.

Due to the repairs, 60th Avenue was closed between 99th Street and Calloway Street.

Anyone who has suffered damages to their personal property due to the water main break may be eligible for a reimbursement from the City of New York and should call the Office of Council Member Ferreras-Copeland for assistance at 718-651-1917.
