WASHINGTON - New York Senator Charles Schumer is the latest Democrat to oppose Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions for Attorney General.

Schumer said that while the Republican is a colleague and friend, he plans on voting against him.

He says he's not confident Sessions would serve as an independent check on the Trump administration and that he’s deeply concerned by Sessions’ view on immigration.

Sessions attended two days of confirmation hearings this week.. where he denied decades-old allegations of racism and pledged to maintain freedom and equality for everyone.

In an unprecedented move, New Jersey Democratic senator Cory Booker testified Wednesday against Sessions.

Meanwhile, confirmation hearings for Donald Trump’s other cabinet nominees are continuing Thursday.

Secretary of Defense nominee James Mattis, Secretary of Housing and Development nominee Ben Carson and nominee for CIA director Mike Pompeo are testifying.
