The city's has welcomed its first baby of the new year.

Baby Nathan Peralta was born at 12:08 a.m. at Flushing Hospital in Queens.

He came in at 7 pounds, 11.5 ounces.

Both he and mother Carmen Peralta are doing well.

"We told her, 'You're going to be the first baby in the new year,' and she pushed really, really well for a first baby," said Dr. Ingy Khattaby of the hospital.

Nathan edged out a little girl named Melanie Londono, who was born at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx just one minute later.

She weighed in at 6 pounds, 9 ounces.

Nathan is Carmen's first child, and he was not due for another two weeks, but Carmen came into the hospital Friday for a checkup and doctors decided to induce her since her blood pressure was high.

The doctors said they noticed she was ready to push at about 11:45 p.m. on New Year's Eve, and told Carmen that her son could be the city's first baby of 2017.

The doctors said Carmen loved the idea and the whole delivery room was one big party, trying to get little Nathan out in time to win the title.

"Everybody was excited. Everyone was in the room — we had five nurses, two doctors," said Khattaby. "And I was like, 'Push, push, push!' And the TV was on with the countdown and everything was so, so much fun."

"And then when we did it at 12:08, we didn't think we had made it, but after they told us we were so happy," Khattaby said.

"It was a blessing, and I feel happy because everybody here is nice and I feel special," Carmen said, laughing. "He's an angel for me."

"We didn't don't know how it was going to be — the New Year's Eve, or our baby," said Luis Duque, Nathan's father. "But the two together, it's just beautiful. We are blessed with our child."

More than 120,000 babies are expected to be born in the city this year.
