Mayor Bill de Blasio is requesting up to $35 million in reimbursement from the federal government to cover security costs for President-elect Donald Trump.

The mayor said he is sending a letter to President Barack Obama on Monday to start the reimbursement process.

He says calls and meetings with the Obama administration and Congress will follow in the next few days.

According to the mayor, the city is requesting reimbursement for costs incurred from November 8 to January 20.

De Blasio said he also talked to incoming Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin about a plan for reimbursement going forward.
