NEW YORK - Traffic in Midtown is moving a little easier today as one of the streets near Trump Tower is back open.

The NYPD has relocated its mobile command center from one corner of 56th Street to another - making way for one lane of crosstown thru traffic between Fifth and Sixth avenues.

The Mayor's Office says it made the decision to reopen the street after consulting with city agencies, the NYPD, and Secret Service.

Officials say the lane reopening will improve congestion in the area, and allow easier access for deliveries and foot traffic to nearby businesses.

Extra security measures around Trump Tower were put into effect after Donald Trump was elected President last month.

Some shops in the area have reported a loss in business of 10 to 20 percent since the election.

"He doesn't have to be here, he's making it worse, this is what he did throughout his whole campaign, made things worse," said Ty Green, concierge at the Chambers Hotel.

As for the president-elect himself, he continues to expand this White House team.

Trump has tapped Thomas Bossert to be his top homeland security and counterterrorism adviser.

He will also focus on cybersecurity.

Bossert previously served as President George W. Bush’s deputy national security aide.

Trump's team also announced one of his main advisers on U-S - Israel relations will be the representative for international negotiations.

Attorney Jason Greenblatt currently serves as executive vice president and chief legal officer for the Trump Organization.

President Obama was last week criticized by President-elect Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the U-S abstaining from a United Nations Security council vote.

The UN approved a resolution, condemning Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory.

Trump has urged a veto of the resolution.
