A judge denies a request for a special prosecutor to look into New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's alleged involvement in the Bridge Gate scandal.

This comes after a former firefighter filed a criminal misconduct complaint against Christie, accusing the governor of failing to order subordinates to reopen lanes on the George Washington Bridge in September 2013.

Three of Christie's former allies were convicted or pleaded guilty to criminal charges in connection to the lane-closing scheme.

They say they shut down lanes as payback to a mayor who declined to endorse Christie in his re-election bid, and say that Christie knew about the scheme.

He was not charged in the federal case and has long denied wrongdoing.

A grand jury would have to hear evidence and hand up an indictment in order for Christie to stand trial.
