The city's transportation department has paved the way for drivers and bikers on Jamaica Ave.

Several miles of Jamaica Ave. between Francis Lewis Boulevard and 224 St. have been repaved to improve the road's condition.

Officials said that completed Phase One, and that constituents in Southeast Queens rely heavily on cars and buses to get around since there is no subway in the area.

"I would say this was the worst road in the area, so we're obviously very delighted that they've done a large job in paving it," Queens City Council member Barry Grodenchik said.

"People can walk and drive and bike et cetera," said the transportation department's Queens borough commissioner, Nicole Garcia.

"It's just a smoother rider condition, so it's really an investment in the quality of life of Queens residents," Garcia added.

Phase Two is scheduled to begin next year for several more miles more from Francis Lewis Boulevard to 168 St.
