Governor Cuomo is "cautiously optimistic" that the Second Avenue Subway will open on time.

The Governor toured the 72nd Street station Friday.

These photos posted on Flickr show him speaking with workers, and in the words of his staff, "pushing hard" for an opening by January 1.

The MTA is aiming to open the three new stations and a new transfer station on the long-awaited line

But the 72nd and 86th Street stations have been plagued by delays.

The agency's board is set to release a progress report on the nearly $4.5 billion project at its committee meetings on Monday.
