St. John's University held an early Veteran's Day celebration on Monday to honor veterans and students with military ties.

Speakers at the event reminded the crowd of all the achievements veterans have made, both during their time in the military and in civilian life.

ROTC students at St. Johns sat with veterans of all ages to discuss their experiences and share stories.

"It's really cool to see some of the vets and hear what they did. Especially talking to them - they've done a lot of cool things with the military," said Jack Ottomanelli, an ROTC member and student at St. John's University.

"I'm very happy with the fact that my friends and fellow veterans decided to come and that we're happy to be here and everybody else is here as well so this turned out to be a great event," said Jonathan DelaCruz, a veteran and student at St. John's University.

One of the veterans at the event was celebrated his 98th birthday with the crowd.

He served in World War II.
