NY1 and Time Warner Cable News project Charles Schumer will win his re-election campaign for U.S. Senate.

The stations are also projecting Hillary Clinton will win New York State's 29 electoral votes in the presidential campaign.

Neither result comes as a surprise. Schumer was leading by as many as 40 points over his Republican challenger, Wendy Long.

Schumer was vying for his fourth term in the Senate. He stands to be the leader of the Democrats when the Senate re-convenes in January. Whether he will be majority leader or minority leader depends on whether Democrats or Republicans win more seats in the Senate on Election Day.

Long also ran, and lost, against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in 2012. Gillibrand got 72 percent of the vote to Long's 26 percent.
