NEW YORK - Getting across town in Manhattan is a little easier now thanks to the new Select Bus Service on the 23rd Street line.
Riders using the M23 bus can now pay their fares at machines on the sidewalk, and can use any door to board the bus.
Select bus service helps cut down on passenger loading times, and speeds up service.
The M23 runs between Peter Cooper Village on the East Side to Chelsea Piers on the West.
Around 13,000 people use it every day.
Riders who spoke with NY1 said it will take some time to get used to the idea of select service replacing traditional service.
"When I seen it in the beginning I said what the hell is going on," said one rider.
The city says Select Bus Service can cut travel times 10 to 30 percent.
The M23 is now the fifth in Manhattan and the twelfth in the city.
The city wants at least 20 across the five boroughs.
Still, some riders don't see the point.
"Like if your running for your bus you have to stop and get the ticket," noted one passenger.
And farebeaters be warned.
The MTA sends security teams to these routes to make sure no one boards the bus without buying a ticket first.
