A Bronx man is under arrest after he was shot by police for allegedly threatening officers with a knife.

Police say 19-year-old Shamel Jones is facing assault, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal mischief charges.

The shooting happened Wednesday night at Jones' apartment on Intervale Avenue near Fox Street in Hunts Point.

Investigators say it all started after officers canvassed the Foxhurst section of the borough after they received a call from Jones' girlfriend.

Police say she claimed Jones assaulted her.

Officers tracked him down to his apartment, where he allegedly grabbed a knife and refused to drop it.

An officer shot Jones in the lower back after a lieutenant tried to pepper spray him.

Jones was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition.

Investigators recovered this knife at the scene.
