Police are searching for a man they say stole a car on Staten Island with a 3-month-old boy inside.

The baby was found safe inside the car near 54th Street and 3rd Avenue in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

But cops say the suspect took off.

It all started around 10:30 this morning at a shopping plaza near Richmond Avenue and Richmond Hill Road on Staten Island.

A witness tells us that the baby's mother left the infant inside the car in the parking lot while she went to a Dunkin' Donuts. That's when cops say the man jumped inside the car and drove off.

"She was on line, she was on the phone, I don't know who she was talking to," the witness said. "That's why she didn't pay attention. And then when it clicked she came running out. Then she fainted a little bit over there from the shock, then she realized it was her car. And then the cops came right away, and she ran right in."

The witness also tells us the man was riding around the parking lot on this red bike just before he took the car.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
