A popular Chinese department store is back in business.
Pearl River Mart reopened in festive fashion on Broadway near Walker Street in TriBeCa.
Surging rent forced the store's Chinatown location to close back in March.
Shoppers came out to sift through ceramics, slippers and decorative objects.
Joanne Kwong, the owners' daughter-in-law, says she's looking to modernize Pearl River Mart.
"They've been in business for 45 years for a reason. People love this store. They love the in-store experience. And I think what I bring is a digital background, a communications background."
"Now I found out that they have a new art gallery, so it's really a mixing of different communities. And it's so exciting to have them back," said City Councilwoman Margaret Chin of Manhattan.
Pearl River Mart originally opened in 1971 as a way for New Yorkers to better understand Chinese culture.
