At least one person is dead after a 3-alarm fire at a vacant building in Brooklyn.

Flames broke out around 8:30 last night in a home on Lincoln Avenue near Liberty Avenue in East New York.

Fire officials say they found a man dead on the third floor and believe he was a squatter.

They say the fire also caused significant damage to a building next to it, leaving several families displaced.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury.

"The thing that made it complicated is the amount of fire upon arrival and also the structural stability in the building that was damaged," said FDNY Asst. Chief James Hodgens. "We did find one victim in the vacant building on the top floor, on the third floor in the rear."

The investigation is ongoing.
