FDNY and NYPD members are helping out in rescue and recovery efforts in the Southeast.

First responders helped three people reach safety who were stranded on top of their SUV in the middle of raging waters. 

Severe flash flooding took over the streets in Fayetteville after Matthew dumped more than a foot of rain in the area.

The swift water rescue was one of more than 140 carried out last night.

45 first responders from New York who are trained in disaster response headed down to various areas impacted by Matthew before the storm began.

It’s the same unit that went to Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Haiti in 2010 following the earthquake.
