Relief efforts are underway in the city to help Haitians recovering from Hurricane Matthew's destruction.
The union 1199 SEIU hosted a meeting at its Midtown headquarters with support groups looking to help.
Participants talked about ways to pitch in with fundraising, health care and security.
They also discussed ideas to rebuild Haiti's infrastructure so it's better prepared for future disasters.
"Logistically, when all of us come together, we get a lot done in a shorter period of time, and that's what we're more concerned about. We're kind of pooling our resources when we do these kind of functions," said Patricia Marthone, vice president of 1199 SEIU.
"The people are in need. They need help, they need clothes, they need shelter, they need medication, they need these things are immediate. But really for me, it's always been about sustainability," said caterer Nadege Fleurimond.
The group also helped out in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, and used that experience to figure out what would work best this time around.
