NEW YORK - It's Halloween weekend, and the city's spookiest spider is preparing to stretch its legs.

Each year during the Village Halloween Parade, the 14-foot, fully articulated puppet hangs from the clocktower at the Jefferson Market branch of the New York Public Library.

Pupeteer Basil Twist is in charge of bringing the creature to life.

"It was originally done by the creator of the parade, Ralph Lee, 43 years ago when the parade started. When the parade got bigger, they kind of took away some of those elements from the parade. And I thought it would be nice at the time to bring it back. And it's been over 20 years now that I've been doing it," Twist said.

NY1's live coverage of the Village Halloween Parade starts Monday night at 8 p.m. as NY1's Pat Kiernan, Jamie Stelter, Ruschell Boone and Stephanie Simon report on the most creative costumes and the behind-the-scenes happenings.
