WASHINGTON - The cost of health insurance under President Barack Obama's health care law is expected to rise significantly next year.

A new report from the Department of Health and Human Services says premiums under a mid-level benchmark plan will soar an average of 25 percent across 39 states.

And about one in five consumers will only have a single insurer to pick from since several major companies pulled back from offering coverage.

Obama administration officials stress that subsidies provided under the law will protect most customers from the higher prices.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has repeatedly said he wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act if he's elected.
