A group of Brooklyn residents are fighting plans to add high-priced housing to the historic Bedford Union Armory.

Last December, the city announced it wants to turn the more than century old building into a mixed use complex — called "Bedford Courts".

Under the proposal, there will be more than 300 units of housing-- but only half would be permanently affordable.

It would also include a recreational sports complex, and office space.

Hundreds of residents voiced their concerns over the plans at a town hall yesterday.

Critics say the city is giving away valuable land to luxury real estate developers.

"You need to listen to the people of the neighborhood," said one. "Many people here came to Crown Heights, in Brooklyn, when no one wanted to live here or invest here."

"This is not a project that benefits the community," said another. "This is a project that further displaces us."

"People who have been long-term residents in the neighborhood, cannot afford to live here anymore, we need more housing in the neighborhood, affordable housing," said a third.

A spokesman for City Hall responded, saying the plans were drawn up after months of feedback and input from the community.

So far, there's no word on when the current plan would go up for final approval from the city.
