NEW YORK - The five boroughs are home to 8.5 million people, and more than 600 different species of animals.

And the city is pushing a new campaign encouraging all species to get along.

A new ad campaign has been rolled out to support the Wildlife NYC initiative, with a particular focus on deer and coyotes.

Posters will begin appearing in the transit system and other public places, asking city residents to think of wildlife as fellow New Yorkers.

The campaign comes on the heels of a plan implemented last month to better control the deer population on Staten Island through non-lethal means, including sterilization.

The city has also produced materials to spread awareness of what to do when a person spots a coyote in the city.
