NEW YORK - Mayor Bill de Blasio has been flying high recently, in a break from his usual routine of avoiding helicopter travel.

On Friday, the mayor was seen flying via police helicopter from Brooklyn's Prospect Park to an event in Queens.

A spokesman says the mayor was in Brooklyn for meetings, but did not elaborate.

The New York Post cites sources close to de Blasio that say those meetings were related to his re-election campaign.

All city mayors have the right to use NYPD helicopters when on official business.

When questioned last year about a streak of frequent lateness, the mayor told NY1 exclusively he did not like chopper rides.

"It's just not my thing. I prefer to be on the ground," De Blasio said.

De Blasio took an NYPD helicopter to last month's presidential debate at Hofstra University on Long Island.
