New Yorkers near the Brooklyn Bridge yesterday afternoon got a bit of a scare — but it was only a drill.

Dozens of people could be seen climbing the bridge, with helicopters overhead and police boats below.

But the NYPD says its Emergency Service Unit was conducting a routine training drill.

Last August the ESU posted on its Twitter page that officers were practicing high angle rope rescue skills on the bridge.

Although the NYPD sometimes makes announcements about its drills, it did not alert the public this time.
