A man was arrested and charged with menacing a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with a police-involved shooting in Brooklyn Friday night.

Police say 44-year-old Kowon Davis was shot and injured during an exchange of gunfire with police in Brownsville Friday night.

Investigators say just before 11 p.m. three plainclothes detectives were on patrol near Howard Avenue and Sutter Avenue in Brownsville, when they saw Davis get out of his car with a gun in hand.

As he started moving toward a crowd, the officers told the man to stop, and that's when police say he turned towards them and fired his gun.

Police say the detectives returned fire, hitting him once in his left leg.

He tried to run away but was apprehended less than a block away and taken to Brookdale Hospital.

The NYPD says this gun was found at the scene.

The three detectives were not injured.
