As of today, you can no longer bring Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones onto an airplane.

The U.S. Department of Transportation says Note 7s will not be allowed onboard in carryon luggage or checked in bags on all U.S. flights.

The department says anyone who tries to bring the phone onboard will have it confiscated and may face fines.

They also can't be shipped as air cargo.

Previously, passengers weren't allowed to turn on their Notes 7s or have them plugged in to a charger.

Samsung recalled more than 2.5 million phones after dozens of reports of batteries catching fire in the United States alone.

The company discontinued production of the device earlier this week.
