The funeral for Battalion Chief Michael Fahy is being held today in Yonkers.
Fahy died after being hit by debris while directing firefighters at Tuesday morning's house explosion in the Bronx. The 44-year-old was the chief of Battalion 19 on Walton Avenue. On Thursday he was posthumously promoted from Battalion Chief to Deputy Chief. He leaves behind a wife and three children, all under the age of 12.
Meanwhile, one of the men arrested in connection with the blast has been arraigned on drug charges.
Julio Salcedo was extradited yesterday from New Jersey to Bronx Criminal Court.
So far, he's only being charged with two counts of marijuana possession.
Police say an illegal gas connection is to blame for the blast.
Investigators say the home was a marijuana grow house.
Salcedo's lawyer says they plan to fight the case.
"There's no connection between my client and the death of the firefighter. As you can see, he's only been charged with marijuana," said the attorney, Dawn Florio.
"We have gas piping and meters, we have grow pots, we have sealants that covered up the second floor apartment, so all of those things are gonna be taken out to a lab both here, and in Maryland to determine what happened," said NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce
Another man, Garivaldi Castillo, was also arrested after the explosion.
He also faces two counts of marijuana possession.
