A wake was held Thursday for firefighter Michael Fahy, who died in Tuesday's explosion at a home in the Bronx.

The 44-year-old was killed after being hit by debris while directing firefighters in the street.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro announced Thursday that Fahy was being posthumously promoted from battalion chief to deputy chief. That's the highest civil service promotional achievement in the FDNY.

"He was a rising star. He was on the list to become a deputy chief. It's something well deserved," said Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro.

"He was a nice guy. He was in my firehouse," said Steve d'Amato of the FDNY. "He started out as a young kid that you knew was very talented."

Another wake for Fahy will be held Friday.

His funeral will take place on Saturday.
