The NYPD has selected a vendor for a massive purchase of more body cameras.

The Seattle-based company Vievu will initially provide the department 1,000 cameras. That could eventually increase to 5,000 cameras.

Vievu's five-year contract will be worth more than $6.4 million.

The NYPD will have a public hearing on October 13.

NY1 has sued the department over access to footage from a body camera pilot program.
