The NYPD is investigating after they say an 82-year-old woman was found tied up and dead inside her home in the East Village. They say a man believed to be her grandson is in custody.

Authorities say they responded to a call for an assault at 711 FDR Drive, in the Lillian Wald Houses, around 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Once they arrived, police say they found the 82-year-old unconscious, with her wrists and ankles bound with tape.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities also say a 39-year-old woman was tied up at the scene, but they say she managed to free herself and alert the police.

Police say a man has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Police say they believe the 82-year-old woman was the man's grandmother and the 39-year-old woman was the man's mother.

The investigation is ongoing.
