The city is mourning the loss of a Tuskegee Airman who lived in Harlem for more than a half century.

World War II veteran Dabney Montgomery died Friday night of natural causes.

He was a ground crewman with the first black pilot corp in U.S. military history and saw action in southern Italy.

Born in Selma, Alabama, he relocated to Harlem after the war and became an educator and civil rights activist.

He marched with Dr. Martin Luther King during the historic march from Selma to Montgomery in 1965.

Montgomery was honored with a Congressional Gold Medal in 2007.

He leaves behind his widow, Amelia.
