TOWNVILLE, S.C. —  Authorities say the teenager who is in custody after a shooting at a South Carolina Elementary school first shot and killed his father.

The man was found dead at a house not far from the school.

Witnesses say the teen jumped a fence at a Townville elementary school and ran onto the playground, firing shots.

Two children and a teacher were hurt.

Officials say a volunteer firefighter risked his life to confront the shooter.

"Firefighters was actually um one of the first first responders to get on the scene and he engaged the suspect and at that point took him down.  And law enforcement was quickly behind him,” said Taylor Jones of Anderson County Emergency Services.

The school was evacuated and parents picked up their children at a nearby church as police secured the school.
