President Barack Obama will lead a delegation to Jerusalem for the funeral of former Israeli President Shimon Peres.

The 93-year-old died Tuesday night, two weeks after suffering a major stroke.

Peres won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 for his role in brokering the Oslo peace accords with the Palestinian Authority.

He was sworn in as Israel's president in 2007 and served until 2014.

NY1 spoke to Dani Dayan, consul general of Israel in New York, who remembered Peres as a tireless advocate for peace.

"I think that he was Israel's greatest friend of the Jewish-American community. And for, at least, as you know, he was a household figure," Dayan said. "I think that every Israeli, every single Israeli, Jew or Arab, feels today like he lost a personal friend, probably even a member of his personal family."

Bill Clinton and Governor Andrew Cuomo are also expected to attend services on Friday.
