Calling it unacceptable and demanding a full investigation, Mayor Bill de Blasio addressed the alleged beating death of a 6-year-old boy.
Zymere Perkins's mother says she brought him to the hospital after finding him unconscious at the family's Harlem apartment. Investigators say he had multiple bruises on his body and a head injury.
His mother, 26-year old Geraldine Perkins and her boyfriend 42-year old Rysheim Smith are both charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child.
"I want to know what happened here," the mayor said. "it is unacceptable that this young man was lost and it's not right to pre-judge, there is a very thorough investigation that has already begun."
It's alleged that Smith beat the little boy with a broom handle.
The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
