We're just hours away from the big showdown, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump going head-to-head in the first debate of the presidential race. New Yorkers have a lot of ideas about what they want to hear from the candidates. NY1's Roger Clark reports.

As folks made their way to work near Columbus Circle Monday morning many were already thinking about their TV viewing for later on.

"I just hope that they stick to the actual subject and not bash each other," said one New Yorker.

They are the candidates for President of the United States. For many we spoke with, watching Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump go toe-to-toe is must see TV — they have their own questions for the candidates.

"Let's talk about things people want to hear," said another passerby. "The economy. Foreign policy. Jobs."

"I think immigration is a big issue," said a third. "The economy."

"I'm hoping that we drill deeper," said another. "I'm hoping that even Trump challenges Clinton."

And some who say they will be tuned in are hoping for less circus, more substance from the candidates this evening.

"Hopefully it's not a crazy melee tonight," said another.

"I don't want there to be craziness," said one. "I just want them to work it out. And it just make it right for the people."

Especially because there are still a bunch of voters who remain undecided.

"I am still not sold on either of them," one man said. "Right now I'm not a big fan of either one. So I don't know who I am going to vote for yet. So this could come in handy tonight? This debate or debates in the future might make me swing either way."

Not everyone says they will watch — one woman says Monday Night Football is on her agenda — others have to work  and one guy says he will choose reruns of The Walking Dead over the debate, choosing zombies over the candidates.
