Criminal charges were filed Friday against the owner of a Manhattan building where broken pieces of a facade fell in May 2015, killing a two-year-old child.

The city buildings department announced that Alexander Scharf, along with the Esplanade Venture Partnership, will be charged with violating the city's administrative code that requires all parts of a building be maintained in a safe condition.

City buildings department officials said the owners were notified about issues with the facade of the building, but they failed to make necessary repairs.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of $25,000 or up to a year in jail, or both.

Greta Greene was with her grandmother when she was killed by falling bricks from the building on West End Avenue near 74th Street.
