Local stores and restaurants in Chelsea are bouncing back after Saturday's explosion rocked the neighborhood.

Le Maison du Macaron, a French bakery on 23rd Street, was forced to close for two days after the blast, and lost thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.

NY1 spoke with the co-owner, Pascal Goupil, who says lost sales could never be more important than safety.

"It was very scary for the staff that was working here that day. They tried to evacuate, they couldn't leave. They had to stay, then they were told to leave, but to run. So it was very scary for them," Goupil said.

Several buildings on 23rd Street were damaged in the explosion, many still have shattered windows.
