Hudson Yards planners unveiled plans for the "Vessel" Wednesday, a new 'public landmark' that will be the centerpiece of a public space connecting the High Line and the new Hudson Park.

Designed by the Heatherwick Studio, the structure will be comprised of 154 flights – made up of 2,500 steps and 80 landings – giving New Yorkers a workout and unique view of 30th Street and Hudson Yards.

"My studio was commissioned to design a centerpiece for an unusual new piece of land in New York," Thomas Heatherwick said. "In a city full of eye-catching structures, our first thought was that it shouldn’t just be something to look at. Instead, we wanted to make something that everybody could use, touch, relate to."

The structure will reportedly cost more than $150 million, and will be paid for by Related Companies, one of the main developers of Hudson Yards.
